Kim Young is the author of the chapbook Divided Highway (dancing girl press, 2008) and editor of Chaparral. Her full-length manuscript, Night Radio, was a finalist for the 2010 New Issues First Book Prize in Poetry (Western Michigan University). Her poems have appeared in 5am, Askew, Los Angeles Review, No Tell Motel, MiPOesias, Pebble Lake Review, POOL, Solo, Blue Arc West: An Anthology of California Poetry, and elsewhere. A Pushcart nominee, she holds an MA at Cal State University Northridge and an MFA at Bennington College, where she received a Jane Kenyon Scholarship in poetry. Kim will be signing Divided Highway for those who wish to purchase her book after the reading.

Travis Koplow has a PhD in American Literature from the University Travis Koplowof Wisconsin where she also taught briefly, edited a book about digital libraries, and published a series of Internet publications before escaping to LA. Here she works as Director of Communications for a nonprofit and writes for a group blog about the city, blogging.la. Her dissertation is about the framing of the Constitution and 18th Century American pop culture, and most recently, she has an essay forthcoming in Chapter and Verse, a collection about academic writing. She will be reading something far less heady tonight: a story titled, “Waiting,” from a series more dreamt of than written—The Physics of Relationships.

Jason Rohrer graduatedJason Rohrer graduated from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts with a double major in Acting and Writing, and immediately got work as an arc welder.  He has acted for the Russian and American stage, on Japanese and American television, and in movies disowned by all nations.  His screenplays are sometimes purchased by production companies that steadfastly refuse to produce them.  He has had two of his plays produced at the Atlantic Theater in New York, and five at other NYC theaters.  He wrote over 100 incarnations of the topical comedy revue Live! Live! News! News!, which ran for 3 years at Southern California venues including the Comedy Store and a college tour.  On Wednesday, he’ll read a violent political poem in iambic pentameter called “Incarnadine”, followed by what he thinks is a sweet coming-of-age story about boys, candy and sex, called “Nor You Nor I”, after which he will make small talk and drink too much coffee.

WANTED: WRITERS! is a forum dedicated to both authors reading from published works and original works-in-progress. Authors interested in giving voice to their writing–short stories, novels, essays, plays or poetry–should contact event programmer Joe Staats at 310-889-6172, or sign-up on our registration sheet at the counter in the Rumor Mill.
