WANTED: WRITERS!, A Literary Reading Series at the Rumor Mill

MARTIN POUSSON is an Assistant Professor of English at California State University, Northridge. He was born and raised in
Acadiana, in Louisiana bayouland. He received a Master of Fine Arts degree from Columbia University, and he’s taught at Columbia University, Rutgers University, and Loyola University in New Orleans. His first novel, No Place, Louisiana, was published by Riverhead Books and was a finalist for the John Gardner Fiction Book Award. His first collection of poems, Sugar, was published by Suspect Thoughts Press and was a finalist for the Lambda Literary Prize. His stories and poems have appeared in Epoch, StoryQuarterly, Cimarron Review, Icon, Transfer, Cocktail, New Orleans Review, The Louisiana Review, Verse Daily, Revisions, Intersection, Love, Bourbon Street, and Gay City Anthology. Martin will be reading "The Wolf & the Pipe," a story about shapeshifting and crank from The Nerves, a collection of stories he is working on; together with a couple of short poems, which are, in part, about presidential buggery.
rachel kann’s poetry and fiction is forthcoming, and appears most recently in: Eclipse, Permafrost, Quiddity, Coe Review, Sou’wester, GW Review, and Lalitamba. She’s performed her poetry with acts including daKAH Hip Hop Orchestra, Sage Francis, Saul Williams, and Rahzel, at such disparate venues as Disney Concert Hall, the San Francisco Palace of Fine Arts, and the Vans Warped Tour. Accolades include James Kirkwood Fiction Awards, Writer’s Digest Short-Short Story Awards, LA Weekly Awards, Backstage West Garland Awards, Critic's Picks, and the International Slam Idol. rachel is also an award-winning performance artist, a mixed-media collage artist, and a budding DJ. Rachel will be reading either poetry, or from her novel-in-progress, The Bent. Find her at www.rachelkann.com CHRIS CORNING grew up in rural central Illinois and earned his bachelor’s degree in
Creative Writing from the University of Illinois. He moved to the San Fernando Valley in the summer of 2006, and he has lived and worked there since. He is currently working toward his master’s at California State University, Northridge. He will be reading from a work-in-progress entitled “Theories of Displacement,” a novella that explores some of the ways that language, narrative, and meaning intersect in the life of a student trying to find his way through addiction, love, and academia.
